4 Facts every Surfer Girl can relate to

We all know those picture perfect shots of Alana Blanchard and her perfectly round butt captured duck diving under crystal clear turquoise blue water somewhere in paradise, with hair to die for and a tan that's out of this world...Yes this is how female surfing is represented most of the time these days and how everyone strives to look like while catching waves (including myself!). Perfect conditions, amazing turns and cut backs while still looking damn sexy with no single hair out of place, no nip slips and immaculate make up?!

Well reality is MOST of the time looking like a fucking supermodel is NOT how it really goes down unless you're a Pro OR Alana Blanchard including her photographer, stylist and make up artist.  My point is don't get demotivated when you come home beaten up by your own surfboard because your duck diving failed and your board smacked you in your face. Don't get embarrassed when you flash a ton of people because your bikini might look sexy while lying on the beach but is CERTAINLY NOT surf proof (trust me it happened to me just the other day...Fortunately the Chinese dude who was the only witness pretended nothing happened. Cheers!). Don't get demotivated when last time you got up and slayed some turns while this time you nose dived or fell of your board the most ridiculous way (you know legs up and weird face kind of way...). Own it like Queen Bey falling down the stairs, get up and get out there again!!! Only with persistence and the right mindset will you look like Alana someday!!!! Ok maybe not exactly like her, but you know what I mean :).

I know you're probably like, yeah well look at the photos you post of yourself...I know I know my butt is out there my poses are, well they are poses and yes I do only choose the perfect shots where I look damn fine. Who wouldn't right? But in honour of this blogpost I'd like to share the 'not so pretty side' of surfing. So here we go:

1.) Wax Rash

You know that painful rash after you've been surfing everyday without a shirt or spring suit. Not pleasant at all!

2.) Not so sexy Wipe Outs

3.) 'Trying to look sexy but totes failed' shots

I just can't help it. Everytime I'm trying to channel my inner Alana I turn into a dork...

4.) Bikini Slips

This one I will leave free to your imagination...Trying to keep it PG rated ;).

Conclusion of today's post: Don't forget the most beautiful girl out in the water is the one having the most fun :) (Cheesy I know! But true)

Stay and Surf in Lombok

Last year I got to check out Lombok on a pretty spontaneous trip. I had five days off so I packed my bags and left Perth with my partner to explore the island.

Kuta Lombok is quite small and compared to most places in Bali still very behind in the tourism sector which is quite refreshing. It gives you a better chance to fully immerse yourself in the Indonesian culture, untainted and raw.

The best season is from April to October. It's better not to come from November to March.

During our time in Kuta we stayed at beautiful Bombora Bungalow. Ideally located only a few minutes walk from Kuta Beach (Lombok) and various restaurants and shops this place didn't disappoint. Each bungalow has their own private ensuite with a communal swimming pool in the middle. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and made our stay very comfortable. Since Kuta Lombok is quite a track away from the airport, the in house Airport Shuttle service was super convenient.

Located just 2 km from Kuta. Seger is a right reef break, with the occasional left off the peak. A good place when the swell drops. On mid tides and offshore winds this can be a great spot, with short tubes and bowly walls ready for any move you can think of. We definitely had the most fun here during our stay as it was the most consistent wave.

Below: Way to Seger Beach and Seger Beach.

Located 20 minutes west of Kuta. On small days this reef break offers a nice peak with short hollow rights and lefts. At 6ft plus, Mawi transforms into a heaving left barrel, with elevator drops and heavy hold downs. At 8-10ft it’s not a spot for the faint hearted. Best on mid tides and a south east trade wind, from May to September. Mawi can hold any size you're prepared to surf, just bring your balls!

I myself didn't get to Are Guling as it wasn't working at the time. It's a right hand reef break located on the west side of Kuta. You can access it by both boat and land. This break is apparetly one of the best right hander on the South Coast. Mid to low tides can see the inside section doubling up and barreling. A left hander on the other side of the bay is surfable, though only when its small. Are Guling needs a north-west wind, most common from October to April and can hold 8-10 ft but is surfed best at 4-6ft.

Another wave I didn't get to surf unfortunately. It's a 7km scooter ride to the east of Kuta and is home to five different surf spots which work on various tides, wind and swell combinations. You can pretty much always get a wave at Gerupuk however it does get pretty crowded.

Hope your stay in Lombok will be as fun as mine was!

Pushing Boundaries at #TPFF Closing Night

Perth Fashion Festival finished with probably one of the most beautiful shows I have seen throughout the whole week!

Steph Audino and Ae'lkemi wowed the audience with gowns that define the modern elegant, confident and sexy woman. While the creations by Steph Audino incorporated a lot of pink and a variety of different fabrics, Ae'lkemi kept the audience in awe over his daring designs baring a lot of skin.

It was a runway filled with glamour and boundary pushing couture. Dresses that will make heads turn and jaws drop.

For me personally this show was the perfect end to Telstra Perth Fashion Week. The creativity, determination and passion from every designer has been a true inspiration! I hope every single one will be able to keep doing what they do best for a very long time!
