My Top 3 SURFSPOTS in Arugam Bay !

My Top 3 SURFSPOTS in Arugam Bay !

Arugam Bay is certainly one of the most consistent place I have been so far. From Beginners to Advanced, this place caters to all surfers any level.

1. Whiskey Point

My personal favourite! Whiskey Point is a about a 20 minute Tuk-Tuk ride from Arugam Bay (~ US$ 10/Return). This point break can get a bit busy but is well worth it. Its medium sized and cruisy waves guarantee for a lot of fun in the water. Referred by locals as the “Magic Wave”, Whiskey is a perfect sand point that breaks off a rock outcropping. This point breaks on almost any sized swell but really starts pumping  at 1 to 2 meters and can handle up to 4 meters on the right swell direction. Be wary though the bigger it gets the rougher the takeoff!

Experience level: Intermediate

Type: Point Break

Wave: Right-hander

2. Main Point

On the left of ‘Mambo Guest House’ (the place to go on a Saturday night), Main Point is in the south of Arugam Bay. There is three sections within the wave. With a semi decent swell these all connect up and turn into a long ride. This spot can get quite big with rather fast takeoffs.

Experience level: Intermediate - Experience

Type: Reef Coral

Wave: Right-hander

3. Peanut Farm

Perfect for Beginners!!! Although the takeoff can be tricky as it’s super close to the rocks, if you sit more on the outside you can easily catch some nice small waves.

Experience level: Beginner

Type: Point Break

Wave: Right-hander

If you happen to end up not surfing (like my boyfriend who laughed at the small waves) you’ll still enjoy yourself, as Peanut farm is super nice to just relax at the cafe or one of the swings they put up.
